2 Day Ice Seminar with the North Face Athlete Anna Pfaff
San Juan Mountain Guides is proud to host the North Face Athlete Anna Pfaff for a 2 day ice climbing experience at the Ouray Ice Park, Friday February 3rd and Saturday February 4th. All participants receive a goodie bag, courtesy of The North Face, La Sportiva, Petzl, Gnarly Nutrition, and the Ginger People! Participants are invited to arrive on the 2nd for a meet and greet with Anna, and host SJMG Guide Katie Beringer, to prepare for the days ahead. Friday at 0730, participants will meet Anna and Katie at the San Juan Mountain Guides office at 710 Main Street Ouray. At the office, participants will be outfitted with boots, crampons, harness, helmets, and ice tools. Then participants will head to the Ouray Ice Park for a day of ice climbing. That evening Anna will host a presentation, food and cocktails included, at the San Juan Mountain Guides office. The next day, participants will again meet at 0730 for another enjoyable day out climbing ice with Anna.
What to Expect
Participants will be climbing routes graded WI3-WI5. Participants will receive instruction on ice climbing technique, and skills to take their ice leading to the next level. Anna and Katie will cover topics like efficiency in movement, the differences of leading rock and leading ice, and the basics of ice protection and anchors, and training for ice climbing. We are interested in your goals! Let Anna and Katie know what skills you want to work on or goals you have so they can be sure to provide a truly impactful experience!

For those looking to get out of the Ice Park and into the backcountry with Anna, she’s offering a backcountry experience later in February. Register here for backcountry ice climbing. Participants will follow Anna and Katie up multi-pitch ice climbs, the exact routes to be determined by weather and ability level.

Itinerary
February 2nd
Participants arrive to Ouray CO. Optional meet and greet to go over gear and any questions for the ice climbing event.
February 3rd
Meet Anna at 0730 at 710 Main Street for all ice climbing gear. Drive to Ouray Ice Park and ice climb from 0830-1530. Later that evening, join Anna for cocktails and conversation and listen to a brief presentation.
February 4th
Meet again at 0730 at 710 Main Street for another day of ice climbing fun!

Ouray, Colorado: Getting Here
Ouray is located in the SW corner of Colorado, approximately 30 minutes south of Montrose. Known as “The Switzerland of America”, the town of Ouray is a vibrant outdoor oriented community. All local businesses are very friendly to the ice climbers who flock each winter to climb in the Ouray Ice Park and surrounding areas.
 The best option for flying to the area is to fly into Montrose, CO. Many airline options exist, and most connections originate from Denver, CO, however, many airlines now offer direct flights into Montrose – especially during the summer and winter months.
It is also possible to fly into Grand Junction, Durango, Telluride, or Denver CO. It may be necessary to rent a car and drive to Ouray if you’d like to fly into one of these airports.
 Below are some approximate driving times if you’d like to drive to Ouray. If you plan on renting a car, please consider the winter weather when selecting your vehicle and at a minimum choose something that offers either front wheel or all-wheel drive.

- Denver, CO: 5.5 hours

Advance Registration is required for this program. You have the option to either call our office and register via phone or utilize our secure Online Reservation System. All participants must read and sign an Assumption of Risks/Liability Waiver and agree to our Reservations and Cancellations Policies.
